Hello !
In many cases when I want to insert a new item, I want to have an automatic name such as collection name and then a number. E.g. Oyster 1. If I insert a new item of the same collection I want it to be named Oyster 2 automatically. Is there a way to do so?
Thank you so much for your support.
Hussein
Hello again @Hussein_Nassar!
As you can imagine, every item does have an ID internally, there has been some discussion whether we should display it to users in other ways than just in the URL:
But having it automatically appended to a metadata such as the item title is something we never planned in fact. You could use Bulk Edition to name everyone as Oyster and then use Sequence Edition to easily navigate between each Oyster and add the number manually, but still is complicated.
For now the easier way that I assume to do this, is actually preparing the base to be imported in a CSV file using any spreadsheet editor, then import it. You can even export your current collection and then re-import it using the option that allows you to update repeated items.
Another tip is that if you want to assure that your item titles are unique, you can configure the metadata as “Unique value” so only one item will be named “Oyster 2”. In the title metadata, you may also set the option to “Display suggestions”, which would help you make sure that the value that you are typing is not an existing one.
If you have any doubts about the concepts that I just mentioned, feel free to ask. I think an actual implementation of this kind of feature is a bit far in our roadmap due to the fact that you can do it externally and the re-import.
