I had a problem when re-importing CSV just to update some metadata but ended with aditional attachment. I found your solution here 
Only column I found is this one: special_attachments
Is this the proper column to remove.
Also, can I remove all the columns I do not really want to be updated and keep just those I want to update.
Also, Is there a quick way to remove the added attachments I really don’t need.

Hi there!
Yes, you can actually perform an update via CSV sending only the columns that you desire. If a column is missing, nothing will happen to those metadata. As for cleaning the attachments… not, we unfortunately don’t have yet some bulk action to remove them 
UPDATE: I actually forgot of one feature… if you do provide your attachments column with a header column special_attachments|REPLACE, it should actually do what your are looking for. But do some testing before, I admit I’m a bit outdated in this field.
