This is a setting at the metadata level. When you edit the metadada (Description in this case), you have on the second column something like below (mine is in Portuguese, but the translation would be something like Show on item list).
The last option says: Never display/Never show (again, not sure about the translation used).
I was able to remove the metadata from the item list page by setting that option on the metadata.
