We can set a geolocation URL for an item und show an OSM map for a single object.
Has anybody thought about a block or something similar that shows an OSM map with multiple entries from items with geolocation URL from a collection or serach? Each entry could belinked to the item as popup.
By OSM you mean OpenStreetMaps, right? We are using them in both the GeoCoordinate metadata type and the Map View Mode. I believe you can get close to what you are looking for, but may not have the UR…
Create the GeoCoordinate metadata, fill in some items with values for it.
In the collection settings, enable the “Map” view mode.
Go to a page, insert the block “Tainacan Collection Items List”. Use either manual selection or dynamic search criteria to load the items (such as a set of filters).
In the floating bar of the block you’ll see some view mode icons like grid and list. The last option is a “plus” dropdown which shows the Tainacan View Modes. From there select map. You’ll see only a preview, the actual render shall appear in the page. More about this flow here.
You can click on the markers to see the item popup with more information and links. However you can not have a direct link to it. I mean one URL that you would click on and that item would be the one selected from start. If you can you may also enable the search bar in the block.
Another thing that is not ideal yet is that the map is, as every view mode, limited to a certain maximum of item. The is 12 by default but you can increase the value. However you won’t be able to use values higher than 96 (or whichever value is defined in you plugin max api settings). This is necessary, we don’t have an ideal way to query multiple items at once in that context.
There are a couple of issues related to this which you might be interested:
None of them is in our higher priority right now, but we’re keeping an eye on this type of demand.
And btw if you don’t solve your issue with our tools, I’ve been testing different Map plugins out there and I’m enjoying these two: Mapster and Waymark. It’s not ideal but you can create the amps on them and from their markers add items links. Mapping and geolocation is such a complex topic that I don’t expect Tainacan to cover it fully as well as dedicated tools. We’ll probably meet them in the middle.
