Problem with alt text

Hello,

Is there a way to get an image’s alternative text to appear on the single items page? It works for the thumbnails but not for the full size images. I work in a public library and our website has to be accessible.

Thanks!

Joanne

Hi @joannep!

I was doing some tests and the Alt text is appearing for me in the Item’s gallery… But I know it is confusing, the Alt text that appear in the Document is not the same Alt text that you define for the Thumbnail. That is because the Thumbnail, even thought might be generated from the Document, can be a very different thing (consider situations like Items that are audio files or PDF attachments). In any case we should definitively work on a feature to fallback the document alt text in case it is not defined.

But right now you can define it. To clarify, you must go to your Item editing page, click on the “Edit” button (the pen shaped) of the document or the attachment (in case you have multiple attachments). The Media gallery will appear and when you select the desired media you’ll see some options on the right side, one of them being the alt text:

This should make the Item gallery in the single items page display that alt text.

After some testing here I also notice that when you click on the image to see the zoomed version of it, that image does not contain the alt text and that is in fact something we should address… I’m opening an issue for it

Hi @mateus.m.luna -

That did the trick, thanks!
