I’m completely new with Tainacan and would like to contact other users in German speaking countries. Are there any?
I’m working as a volunteer in a local NGO in the northern part of Berlin (Freundeskreis Chronik Pankow). We have a small museum, produce a quarterly brochure since more than 30 years. Several events are organized for public and members.
Our archive is not well organized. I think typical problem for NGO historical societies. We have >1.000 articles from members, >100 own exhibitions over times, hundreds of pictures and postcards, maps, books, collections from historical newspapers, copies of books and articles and copies from documents in 18th and 19th century.
My idea is to use Tainacan for this collection for internal use and partial in public.
Is anybody interested in the German localization of the interface? Actually 10% of the strings are translated to German, but most of them are not yet confirmed. That means we can not use them. I’ve localized Moodle (Learning Management System), Mahara (portfolio system) and several others over years.
Sadly I am not aware of other users here.. I did a search in other topics and found @Losonczi mentioning a german figure but I’m not sure if he himself would be.
A good start would be reaching to the users who did start the translations in the wp.org and maybe give a shout in the WordPress German Slack community.
In anyways we’re really excited to have your localization efforts and would be happy to have any help. Feel free to engage with us bringing doubts in English or even in German, we can work pretty well with a little help from online translators these days
There is a good progress in translation of German language pack. The Readme- Strings for plugin presentation on WordPress-pages are available in German now.
The German language package will be published if 90% of the strings are translated. I think this may be possible after easter.
A very first version of German language pack (de_default) is available now. Translation is completed.
In the next step I will do a quality check on a platform. Afterwards the second German language pack (de (sie)) will be created.
Any suggestions for better translation and typos are welcome. Many thanks to the helpful German polyglot team and Mateus for his quiick answers.
A bigWillkommen** to the 13th (and soon 14th) locale to the Tainacan plugin!**
I’m glad to see all the work @ralfh is doing here, soon we’ll increase it to other parts of the project (such as the oficial website) in order to give German users a proper context.
The second German language package (de_Sie/formal) is available now. Download from language package site Tainacan < GlotPress | WordPress.org
There is only a small difference of a few dozen strings between both packages. During translation of de/default I translated that most personal pronouns were switched that we have no difference.
Advice for translators: For future translations try to avoid to translate the personal pronouns and use non personal translation. All translations in one German version has to be copied in the other version. You can notify me for approval of translations.
