In several languages ‘item’ is translated as ‘item’ or similar. In German there is no term like item.
I can translate ‘item’ as
an object like a physical object (a painting, a book, a document). German: Objekt
or
an entry like an entre in a database. German: Eintrag.
’entry’ sounds best for me because ‘object is used a s seperate term. What do you think?
Again that is a good question… I’ll give some ideas;
In Portuguese we do have the word “Objeto” for “objects”. In some earlier documentation about Tainacan we described Items as “the digital objects”.
In Portuguese we use “Item” for elements in a list so I guess it is closer to “entry”? The word should be really generic considering that you may create a collection of anything. In a collection of Authors, the items are people. In a collection of Places, the items are locations, etc.
For example, when using the Gutenberg block “List”, the child blocks are translated as “Item da lista” in Portuguese:
That said, in Spanish they are translating as “Elemento”. We do have “Elemento” in Portuguese but it reminds me more of some chemistry or physics conversation…
